Fifty female students sellected from secondary schools in Adamawa State have started an intensive training on digital innovation.
The girls are receiving the three-day training at the state capital, Yola, courtessy of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB) ahead of International Day for Girl-child Education scheduled for October 11.
The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrates on October 11 annually and the theme for 2021 commemoration is Digital Revolution: Not Without Girls.
During the flagg-off of the digital innivation training at Aliyu Musdafa College Yola on Saturday, UNICEF Education Consultant Joel Jutun explained that the participants were selected from the five local government areas of Fufore, Guyuk, Hong, Yola South and Yola North.
“At the end of the training, 10 best girls would be selected,” Jutun explained, adding that of the 10, five will represent the state in Abuja while the other five girls will be part of the celebration of the day in Adamawa on October 11.
In his remark, Chairman of ADSUBEB, Dr Salihi Atequ, reminded the girls that they face high odds towards success, which requires them to do well at their studies to surmount such odds.
He charged the girls to make the best use of the digital innovation training to upgrade themselves in this age of digit technology.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Wilbina Jackson, said the government had committed much efforts and resources towards the success of girl-child education in the state, and charged the girls to understand that they have the potential to improve themselves and change their world.
