The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) has started the construction of its university.
The Church on Friday laid the foundation of the Lutheran University of Nigeria (LUN) in Demsa, Adamawa State.
This comes as the fourth university to grace the state of Adamawa after federal government-owned Modibbo Adama University (MAU) in Yola, state-owned Adamawa State University (ADSU) in Mubi and privately owned American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had the honour to lay the foundation blocks of LUN at its permanent site in Demsa, near the state capital, Yola.
The new university, designed to occupy 171 hecters of land, is slated to commence academic activities with 15 programmes in three faculties in the first quarter of 2023.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said during the foundation laying of the university that people should not focus on the erection of physical structures in tertiary institutions, but should do much in the area of equipping students with scriptures as well as social and entrpreenurial skills.
“I urge people to make it a point of duty to ensure the University becomes a reality. It should be where right attitude to study and issues that have to do with protection of human dignity and reconciliation will be fostered in the society,” Boss Mustapha said.
In his address, the Archbishop of the LCCN, Most Rev Musa Filibus, said the university was established to make impact on human capital development globally.
